Perhaps the most popular and best-known pattern in Quimper pottery, the classic Henriot Man is an enduring symbol of the centuries-old pottery tradition of Brittany, France.
Handcrafted and hand-painted by Henriot Quimper in Quimper, Brittany, this charming plate features the iconic Breton man dressed in traditional regional costume. The familiar Breton figure, surrounded by the colorful decorative borders associated with classic Quimper faience, is the design many collectors immediately recognize as Quimper pottery.
For anyone beginning a Quimper collection—or adding to one—the Henriot Man is a wonderful place to start. Its traditional Breton figure and distinctive hand-painted decoration embody the history, folk art and character that have made Quimper pottery collected and admired around the world.
Quimper’s remarkable tradition of faience pottery dates back to 1690. For more than three centuries, generations of artisans have preserved the art of creating and decorating pottery by hand in Quimper, Brittany.
Each piece of Henriot Quimper faience is completely handmade and individually hand-painted by a skilled artist from start to finish. The artist signs the finished piece and marks it Henriot, helping authenticate its origin.
Because every plate is painted entirely by hand, subtle variations in the Breton figure, colors, brushwork and decorative details are part of the beauty of genuine Quimper pottery. No two pieces are exactly alike.
Whether displayed as a collectible or used at the table, the Henriot Man Round Plate is a classic piece of French faience and one of the most recognizable expressions of traditional Quimper style.
