A wonderful example of classic Breton folk art, the Tradition Man Miniature Plate captures the heritage and unmistakable character of authentic Quimper pottery.
Handmade and hand-painted in Quimper, Brittany, France, this petite plate features a Breton man dressed in traditional regional costume. The colorful figure and decorative details reflect the traditional imagery that has become so closely associated with Quimper faience and the culture of Brittany.
The Tradition pattern is an especially fitting choice for collectors who appreciate the historic character of Quimper pottery. Its classic Breton figure brings a little of Brittany’s regional heritage into the home while showcasing the expressive brushwork of hand-painted French faience.
Measuring just 4.75 inches, the Tradition Man Miniature Plate is ideal for display in a French country kitchen, china cabinet, bookshelf, or tabletop. Display it individually or combine it with other miniature Quimper plates to create a colorful collection.
Its petite size also makes it a thoughtful gift for a Quimper collector, Francophile, or anyone with a special appreciation for Brittany and traditional French craftsmanship.
Quimper’s remarkable tradition of faience pottery dates back to 1690. For more than three centuries, generations of artisans have preserved the art of creating and decorating pottery by hand in this historic Breton town.
Each plate is individually hand-painted, so subtle differences in the Breton figure, colors and brushwork give every piece its own character. These variations are part of the beauty and authenticity of genuine Quimper pottery.
Display the Tradition Man Miniature Plate on its own or pair it with the Tradition Woman Miniature Plate to create a classic Breton couple and a charming representation of traditional Quimper faience.
